Vandals spraypaint ‘SNP out’ on office of Communities Secretary
VANDALS have targeted the offices of a Nationalist MSP and one of the party’s election candidates.
Aileen Campbell said she was ‘deeply saddened’ after the words ‘SNP out’ were spraypainted on her constituency office in Carluke, Lanarkshire, and a window was smashed overnight on Tuesday.
Yesterday, the same slogan was discovered daubed on the offices of the candidate for Motherwell and Wishaw.
Marion Fellows said she would not be put off by the attack on her campaign headquarters in Merry Street, Motherwell. Police are investigating both incidents. Communities and Local Government Secretary Miss Campbell said: ‘An attack on my office last night, which has been reported to the police, has saddened me deeply. I have a duty of care for the people who work in my office and this is clearly upsetting for them, as well as for the other tenants in the building and our neighbours.
‘People can disagree about politics, but there is no excuse for mindless aggression, vandalism or violence which causes stress and anxiety in our local communities.’
She vowed not to be ‘dragged down by the mindless act of a minority’.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘We received a report of vandalism at a constituency office on Kirkton Street, Carluke, around 8.40am on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
‘The incident is believed to have happened between 9pm on Tuesday, November 26, and 8am on Wednesday, November 27. Inquiries are ongoing.’
