Let it dough! Fun festive sweet treats
SANTA Claus is coming to town... and I cannot wait. Christmas has always been very special for me. I’ve always loved the quality time with friends and family, walks in the snow then cuddling up by a fire, giving gifts and, of course, all the fabulous festive feasting.
I’m Amy Lorimer from Edinburgh, creator of the Baking With Granny blog – and today and tomorrow I’m going to be sharing some of my favourite holiday recipes.
Baking has always been a big part of family life for us. My mother, Christine, was a professional baker, and her Christmas treats were truly spectacular.
Now we bake together with my two sons – and our two special supplements will feature our favourite festive treats, from classic Christmas pudding to mouthwatering mince pies, chocolatey orange fudge, yummy yule log and gorgeous gingerbread truffles.
I’ve always been fanatical about Christmas. My father loves to tell people how, when I was a child, right after my birthday had passed in July I would start writing my letter to Santa.
My excitement for the big day has never dimmed. Last year I bought a 10ft Christmas tree – a month before moving to a house that doesn’t have the ceiling height for it, so I’m now shopping for another.
My to-do list also includes meeting Santa, school fairs, gift shopping, countless parties, admiring all the decorations, watching festive films and, of course, baking up a storm (nothing makes the home more festive than scents such as gingerbread).
So whether you need something for a school or office bake sale, a homemade gift for a loved one, the perfect pudding for after dinner or simply snacks to feed festive visitors, we’ve got you covered.
There’s something for everyone – even vegan no-sausage rolls. When you feel the need for something savoury rather than sweet, rustle up some easy oatcakes to upgrade your cheeseboard.
I hope our family bakes remind you of the treats your Granny used to make. Merry Christmas!
