Scottish Daily Mail - - The Brexmas Election -

ON Friday, SNP External Affairs Secretary Fiona Hyslop tweeted a photograph of her meeting French MP Jean-Luc Mélenchon, head of the far-Left party La France Insoumise.

His party holds less than 3 per cent of seats in l’Assemblée Nationale, so we can only assume his membership of the foreign affairs committee is the reason Hyslop met him.

Mélenchon, pictured, is notorious for his comments about French Jews and the Holocaust. Only last month, he accused the Representative Council

of French Jewish Institutions of ‘violent and aggressive sectarianism’ and being ‘bizarre, folkloristic and ridiculous’. In 2014, he called Jews ‘an aggressive community preaching to the rest of the nation’. In 2017, he echoed far-Right leader Marine Le Pen in denying that France bore responsibility for rounding up and deporting Jews during the Holocaust.

If Scottish Government ministers must insist on playing at foreign affairs, they should at least know the character of those they’re meeting.
