IT prides itself on being a family show watched by millions.

But The X Factor has been plagued with complaints after featuring a routine by girl group the Pussycat Dolls which viewers compared to a ‘strip show’.

More than 400 complained to media watchdog Ofcom about the ‘disgusting’ and ‘disrespectful’ routine, which appeared before the watershed on the programme. Nicole Scherzinger, 41, who appears as a judge on the talent

show, was seen writhing around the stage in a sheer bodysuit.

She was joined by fellow bandmates Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt, Carmit Bachar and Jessica Sutta at the final of X Factor: Celebrity on Saturday.

Scantily clad in black underwear and skin-tight PVC, it was the group’s first public performance in a decade as they reunited to perform a medley of their hits along with new song React.

But parents expressed their shock at ITV’s decision to air the scenes before the 9pm watershed – which protects children from unsuitable content.

One viewer said: ‘Disgusting, shameful and disrespectful! Very disappointed as I was watching with my seven year old daughter. This was very inappropriate for a family show!’

Another wrote on Twitter: ‘I’m all for women doing what they want, but kids should be able to watch a family show without seeing a strip show.’ And a third branded the outfits ‘horrendous’. The group’s reunion, which comes after their split in 2010, did not include former member Melody Thornton.

The celebrity version of the ITV show was won by ex-reality star Megan McKenna. Ofcom yesterday said it received 419 complaints is deciding whether to launch an investigation. An ITV spokesman said the performance was ‘not considered to be unsuitable’.
