HUNDREDS of families remained without gas last night following a loss of supply earlier this week.

Some 460 properties in the Falkirk, Stirlingshire, area are still without a mains gas supply as a result of a faulty piece of equipment in the network.

However, more than 7,000 properties have been reconnected by engineers working to restore supplies following a failure on Sunday morning.

Gas network company SGN confirmed yesterday that each household affected by the problem would receive £30 worth of credit for each 24-hour period they have been without gas.

It added that an extra £30 would also be given as a ‘gesture of goodwill’ in recognition of the severe weather throughout Sunday.

Most of the 14 schools and educational establishments shut on Monday reopened yesterday as the issue was resolved, though three remained closed.

A statement from SGN said: ‘If you have any issues after your gas is restored, please visit us at Camelon Community Centre so we can try to help.’
