STEPHEN ROBINSON insists Motherwell’s preparations for yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Rangers were not affected by his arrest on Friday evening. The Fir Park manager was charged and released in connection with an alleged disturbance near Edinburgh’s Waverley Station during a private day out. Motherwell released a statement on Saturday in which Robinson denied the charges and any wrongdoing. Speaking after goals from Nikola Katic and Alfredo Morelos gave the visitors victory at Fir Park, the 45-year-old said he had been able to build for the match as normal. ‘It had no effect whatsoever,’ said Robinson. ‘We were off on Friday but we trained on Saturday and I was there. So not at all. I don’t think I need to say anything about that at the moment.’ Morelos was dismissed after collecting a second booking for his goal celebration, but Motherwell were unable to threaten a comeback against the ten men. Robinson admitted his side had underperformed but also pointed to an excellent second-half stop by Allan McGregor to deny Christopher Long from close range. ‘We knew we needed 11 players to be right at the top of their game and we had five or six below par,’ he said. ‘Our decision-making was a bit rushed as opposed to our usual patience. In saying that, we were only 1-0 down to a set play. There wasn’t a lot between the teams and we would have been 1-1 if not for an incredible save from Allan McGregor.’
