‘I SUBBED THE SUB TO GIVE US FRESH LEGS’

- CHRIS WHEELER at Old Trafford

DUNCAN FERGUSON will speak to Moise Kean today after the Everton striker reacted badly to being replaced just 18 minutes after coming on as a substitute. Kean and interim manager Ferguson did not acknowledge one another as the 19-year-old, yet to score since joining Everton for £24.5million last summer, came off in the 89th minute and headed straight down the tunnel. Ferguson bizarrely claimed that he was replacing his substitute with Oumar Niasse because he wanted ‘fresh legs’ before admitting that Kean (below) had struggled to get into the game. ‘I can see why he’s upset,’ said Ferguson. ‘I’ll speak to him next time I see him, tomorrow probably. I’ll mention it. I think it’s understandable if you’re a sub getting subbed off, I’ve been there as a player myself. I was just looking for fresh legs really. Unfortunately, he was the one I decided to bring off. ‘He struggled to get up to the speed of the game and I said I was going to put on a guy who can handle it a bit better. It was no slight on Moise Kean, I just wanted to kill a bit of time.’ Ferguson also claimed that he could not remember taking off his suit jacket despite the cold and wet conditions. ‘It was red hot,’ he said. ‘It was just the adrenaline.’ The former Everton striker has now beaten Chelsea and drawn with United in his two games in charge, but insists he is not the long-term solution. ‘It’s buying them time to get the right man in,’ said Ferguson. ‘We need the best manager in the world. I’ve not got the experience.’ United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unhappy that Everton’s goal was allowed to stand after Dominic Calvert-Lewin appeared to catch goalkeeper David de Gea in the face before Victor Lindelof put the ball into his own net. ‘People will say David has to be stronger, but it’s a clear foul, his elbow is in his face,’ said Solskjaer. He also revealed that United target Erling Braut Haaland has made a decision over his future after the Salzburg striker held talks with Solskjaer on Friday. ‘He knows what he wants and what he’s going to do,’ said Solskjaer.
