WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND
SHOWSTOPPING SEQUINS
SEQUINS ARE FOR DANCING
New Year’s eve is the time to throw caution to the wind and step out of your comfort zone — and in my case, on to the set of Saturday Night Fever. And I love it.
Sequins are a small step for some, but for me they’re a giant leap. For most of the year, my wardrobe is pared back and as boring as bringing up Brexit.
However, they make me feel joyful — and in the mood to book a babysitter and head out to dance to Donna Summer. Think of them as a sartorial antidepressant.
KEEP YOUR SPARKLE CLASSY
RememBeR, sequins should be for life, not just for Christmas, so invest wisely. Look for dense coverage and check the threads — you’ll soon get a sense of whether they’re about to fall off.
A sequin outfit should happily stay in your wardrobe for years, making an appearance whenever there’s something to celebrate, so make sure you really love it.
The little number that went down so well at the office Christmas bash might seem too short and tight for a dinner in February. Instead, buy something you will feel comfortable wearing at a party come spring, or on holiday in August.
WEAR WITH A COSY JUMPER
THIS year sequins aren’t just for parties — you can also dress them down for daywear. They’re perfect to wear when meeting friends for a pub lunch or going to the theatre.
Choose relaxed, wearable styles such as these trousers. Add flat shoes or trainers, combine with knitwear, or team with denim. They’re not just acceptable at night; in my view, sequins should be compulsory 24 hours a day.
