He looked like Jason Statham — suave and Bond-esque

KATE, 33 VITAL STATISTICS

SINGLE for two years.

CURRENT ROLE

I RUN my own tutoring company.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

A MANLY man, with facial hair and a kind smile. I value the importance of love and family after surviving the Boston marathon bombings in 2013 — it makes me grateful for each day.

Dating Past

I haven’t been in a long-term relationship since my university days. I used to travel the world with my teaching, but now I’m settled with a dog and a business, it would be lovely to share my life. I only ever see children and mums through work, so I don’t meet anyone I might date!

Pre-date nerves?

I felt confident walking in to the Ivy Brasserie in london. however, it was a relief to meet Graham and realise he was a nice, normal guy.

Love at first sight?

Graham looked like Jason Statham! he was wearing a navy shirt and looked suave and Bond-esque. there’s no doubt he’s great-looking...but I didn’t feel attracted to him.

Easy to talk to?

I loved that Graham didn’t take himself too seriously. We bonded over being fish out of water in london and found it funny at how useless we were both trying to figure out the london Underground network.

It was a shame we both had long journeys home — I live in Solihull; he’s from Worcestershire — so we couldn’t totally relax. But the more I got to know Graham, the more I liked him.

Embarrassing moments?

We had a giggle when we ordered a tomato salad and it was literally four tomatoes on a plate. We would have been more comfortable in nando’s.

Did sparks fly?

even though we didn’t flirt, we got on like a house on fire. We both share a love of old school simplicity and hate social media. But I felt uncomfortable when Graham talked about his ex. he also has three children.

Graham seems to have been there and got the t-shirt when it comes to family life. I am an eternal romantic, still looking to be swept off my feet, while he is somewhat jaded and hardened by things from his past.

Did you kiss?

no, BUT we shared a genuinely warm hug at the end.

What do you think he thought of you?

I don’t think he fancied me. I think he thought I was like a little sister.

Would you take him home to your family?

YES, I absolutely would. he’s not that far away from me and he’d be a great guy to introduce to anyone, because he’s so down to earth. I’m going to email him to say thanks.

one of the reasons I went on this date was to encourage my mum to start dating again. this was a perfect way for me to show her dating can be a wonderful experience.

KATE’S VERDICT: 8/10

LIKED? He laughed at himself.
