Kinghorn is aiming for revenge in derby clash

- By ROB ROBERTSON

EDINBURGH full-back Blair Kinghorn believes his side’s lauded back three are the key to gaining revenge over Glasgow Warriors after failing to fire last Saturday. For all Richard Cockerill’s claims that Kinghorn and wingers Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe are good enough to play together for Scotland, they didn’t show that at Scotstoun. Van der Merwe was taken off early, Graham only had a few opportunities while it was Kinghorn who was the pick of the back three. His try eight minutes from time looked to have secured an Edinburgh victory until replacement hooker George Turner went over for the winning score for the home side with five minutes left. It was a disappointing end to the game for Kinghorn but he remains optimistic his side can turn things around on Saturday at Murrayfield. ‘Our back three is strong,’ said Kinghorn. ‘We’ve got a lot of depth there now so there’s good competition for places. ‘We back ourselves in the next game. Darcy’s got great feet and can cut around people from nowhere, while Duhan, he’s very fast and disruptive and I am very grateful to be able to play with them. ‘Could we be the Scotland back three? It could happen, but it’s a long way away. I think Duhan’s definitely good enough to play internationally, he’s learning more and more about the game and his positional stuff is getting so much better, I feel comfortable playing with him in the backfield. When teams kick loose ball to him he’s disruptive. It’s great to see him charging back at them. ‘The derby is always a game of fine margins and no one’s ever going to run away with it. We just came out of it on the wrong side in the first one, so we are not too downhearted.’
