Police quiz duo af ter pills put in women’s kebab

- Daily Mail Reporter

Investigators said that reportedly tainted food was discovered by the group of women, aged in their 20s, after they bought it from a takeaway in the early hours of Sunday.

The alleged victims, who found tablets in the food, told police who then arrested two male suspects, aged 30 and 42.

An online post documenting the claims of one of the alleged victims’ told how her friend had been eating the kebab with a fork when she reportedly came across two pills. As she spat out a chunk of food she allegedly found a third tablet.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: ‘My friend was eating her kebab and found a blue capsule in the kebab.

‘Luckily she was eating the kebab with a fork, that’s how she found it. We opened the capsule and there were four small white tablets inside. She continued to eat the kebab and had a horrific taste in her mouth and spat out her food and there was a larger white tablet. We called the police and they came around to take statements.’

Police said the women had reported finding the pills in their food after they allegedly returned home from the Istanbul Grill in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, on Sunday. Chief Inspector Jon

Carter said: ‘I understand this incident may cause concern.

‘However, police have taken prompt action to protect the public with the arrest of two people and are working with partners, especially in the district council, to enhance protective measures. The investigation is at an early stage and exactly what happened and the motivations of those involved are not yet fully understood.

‘However, there is nothing to suggest that any other food outlets are involved, or that there is any link with any particular section of the wider community.

‘Local officers will be present in the area and I would ask for the support of the public in allowing officers to investigate.’

It is not known what type of pills were found in the food.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: ‘Police have arrested two men in connection with an investigation into tablets found in a kebab purchased from a takeaway.’

The men, who remained in custody last night, were arrested on suspicion of administering poison with intent to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm.
