STARS GET-A-RAY FROM IT ALL!

- By Sam Walker

IT was a chilly start to the decade, with temperatures falling below zero only hours after the Bells.

But as they celebrated in the sun, it appears these famous Scottish faces are looking forward to a brighter 2020 than most. Hollywood A-lister Gerard Butler, Line of Duty star Martin Compston and bra tycoon Michelle Mone all posted snaps of themselves taking in the Bells in warmer climes abroad.

Far from her roots in Glasgow’s Bridgeton, Baroness Mone, 48, celebrated the end of the year in a white swimsuit on holiday in the Caribbean.

The mother of one, who is engaged to billionaire Doug Barrowman, posted a picture of herself in sunglasses – and bizarrely stroking a stingray – alongside the message: ‘Happy New Year to you & your family! I hope all your dreams come true in 2020. Lots of love from the Caribbean.’

Greenock-born actor Compston, 35 marked the occasion poolside at his home in Las Vegas, having pre-recorded his appearance on the BBC’s Hogmanay show. He posted a snap on Instagram of him grinning with his feet in the water, holding a bottle of Tennent’s lager alongside his pet dog.

He wrote: ‘Oh the weather outside is frightful... happy Hogmanay troops!

‘The dog is absolutely buzzing for it as you can see. All the best to each and every one of ya, hope 2020 is a cracker.’

From the other side of the world, Olympus Has Fallen actor Butler, 50, posted a snap from the Himalayas showing him posing on a mountain top. He wrote on Instagram: ‘Let your light shine in to the new decade. Sending you all love. Happy New Year from the Himalayas.’ But not all Scotland’s A-listers flew to exotic locations for the New Year. Doctor Who star David Tennant stayed put, marking the event with his wife Georgia and friends including Green Wing star Stephen Mangan.

Edinburgh-born singer KT Tunstall posted a frosty snap from her tour of America, writing ‘Happy 2020!’ in the snow in Colorado. Singer Rod Stewart posted photographs, taken 20 years apart, of himself posing with his wife Penny Lancaster on his knee. Sir Rod wrote: ‘OMG 20 years of love and happiness (1999 to 2019) may we have another happy 20 years together.’ Rod takes it lying down – Page 32
