Kennedy set for Paisley debut as Dons strike deal

- By SCOTT DAVIE

MATTY KENNEDY last night sealed his £70,000 move from St Johnstone to Aberdeen in time to make his debut for the club in Paisley tomorrow. The clubs agreed the fee for a player Derek McInnes originally signed on a pre-contract earlier this month with a view to the winger joining in the summer. McInnes made it clear after the Dons’ midweek loss to Motherwell that he aimed to add two attackers to the squad before the trip to face St Mirren. Now he has finally secured the arrival of Kennedy (left) despite late interest from Hearts. McInnes said: ‘I’m pleased we managed to reach an agreement with St Johnstone to bring Matty to the club now. He is the type of player who can really help make the difference for us.’ The Dons did, however, lose out to the Gorgie club over striker Liam Boyce, who yesterday sealed his move to Hearts from Burton Albion. McInnes said: ‘Motherwell was deemed as a big game and when you don’t win, the fallout is understandable. ‘We’ve got plenty of chances between now and the end of the season to show we’re good enough to finish third.’ Jim Goodwin, meanwhile, will make sure Kyle Magennis receives the best treatment possible after the St Mirren midfielder was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The 21-year-old was stretchered off after just seven minutes of the 1-0 defeat by Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday night with a scan confirming a cruciate ligament problem which will require surgery. Buddies boss Goodwin said: ‘We will make sure we get the best surgeon possible to do the operation.’
