Oops, there’s a leek in the car! As shopping gaffes go, Pamela’s is a Big Yin...

- By Stuart MacDonald

AS he looked at the soggy groceries his wife had just bought, Scots comic legend Sir Billy Connolly could be forgiven for wishing he had his famous wellies with him.

The Big Yin was faced with a washout and sodden bags after his wife drove their pick-up truck through a car wash – with her purchases uncovered in the back.

Pamela Stephenson forgot the shopping was lying exposed in the truck bed before taking the vehicle for a clean. After the mishap left leeks, butter and a cabbage absolutely soaked and strewn across the back of the truck, the comic must have wondered if he should clean up the mess or make a pot of soup.

A photo shared on social media by Miss Stephenson, 0, shows Glasgow-born Sir Billy, , assessing the damage as he retrieves a pack of quilted toilet paper.

She posted on Twitter: ‘Oops, drove thru car wash with forgotten groceries in the back.’

The incident happened near the couple’s home in Key West, Florida, on Monday, and fans were quick to see the funny side. Karen Evans posted: ‘Oops! Bet the air was blue! So nice to see a pic of Sir Billy.’

Sir Billy, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, moved to Florida from New York after his doctors advised him to live in a warmer climate.

The comedian has been married to Miss Stephenson, an actress turned psychologist, since 1989 and the couple have three daughters, Amy, Scarlett and Daisy.

As well as being one of the UK’s best-loved stand-ups, Sir Billy has won praise as an actor and in 199 was nominated for a Bafta for his role alongside Dame Judi Dench in the historical drama Mrs Brown.

His final stand-up shows made profits of £2. 4million and £580,000 in 2016 and 201 respectively.

The former shipyard worker was knighted in 201 for his services to entertainment and charity.
