Hunt for missing woman, 26, after her Mercedes is found abandoned

- By Alan Shields

A SEARCH has been launched for a young woman whose car was found abandoned outside a shop in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown.

Lauren Paterson, 26, was last seen at her parents’ house in Uddingston, near Glasgow, around 10am on Monday.

Her white Mercedes was later discovered outside a ScotMid store beside The Castle Rooms venue in the town.

Miss Paterson’s disappearance while the country is in lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic sparked fears for her wellbeing.

She was officially reported missing to police yesterday afternoon.

Friends said that when Miss Paterson, who they describe as having blonde hair and a small build, was last seen she was wearing all black clothes.

Her father Craig Paterson put a plea for information on his daughter on a local social media site. He said: ‘I am on here today to ask if anyone has seen my daughter, missing from yesterday in the Uddingston area.’

Her cousin, Craig Pringle, issued a similar plea on Twitter. Asking everyone who read his post to retweet (RT) it in order to help spread awareness, he wrote: ‘My cousin Lauren Paterson has gone missing in or around Uddingston can I ask for my followers to RT please #Uddingston #Glasgow.’

He added: ‘If anyone has seen or heard from Lauren and has any information please get in touch ASAP.’

Police are now also scouring the area looking for clues as to her dissapperance.

A spokesman said: ‘Police enquiries are ongoing to trace Lauren Paterson. She was reported missing yesterday afternoon.’

As of 7pm last night Mr Paterson reported on social media that his daughter was still missing as others offered prayers she would be found soon.
