GET FIT IN 15 MINUTES

WHAT TO DO

FOR a great cardio workout in a small space, try these mountain climbers, says celebrity personal trainer Nadya Fairweather (u-shape.co.uk). These get the heart pumping and are a full body exercise as you have to engage your core and upper body muscles.

Start in a press up position, hands under your shoulders, eyes looking just beyond your fingertips. Bring one knee in towards your tummy or chest, then back together, then the other knee in. Keep alternating and increase your speed once you find your rhythm. Remember to breathe (no holding your breath!) and try and do as many as you can for one minute. Rest, then repeat for 45 seconds, rest. Then 30 seconds, rest. Then 15 seconds.

WHAT TO EAT

DID you know that certain foods are great for our cardiovascular health? Nutritionist Shona Wilkinson (shonawilkinson.com) recommends adding the following to your diet to help your heart. Strawberries, blueberries and blackberries are jam-packed with useful nutrients. They are also rich in antioxidants which protect against oxidative stress and inflammation. Try snacking on walnuts, which help to reduce ‘bad’ cholesterol and therefore boost heart health. Tomatoes are full of lycopene. Low levels of this are linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Remember that cooked tomatoes have more lycopene than raw ones.
