YOU HAVE YOUR SAY

-

EVERY week Money Mail receives hundreds of your letters and emails about our stories. Here are some of the best from our article on how coronavirus could be pushing the UK into a cashless society before we are ready:

COUNTRIES such as Sweden are as near to a cashless society as it is possible to be. My son lives there, and for the past year he hasn’t carried a wallet — just a bank card in his pocket and his mobile phone which he can use to pay for things.

D. C., London.

BANKS have always wanted to go cashless in the long term. Computers and new technology offered an opportunity to cut payroll costs, hence why they’ve pushed online banking. Now a cashless society will help them get rid of thousands of staff.

H. G., West Bromwich.

I AM looking forward to the demise of cash. It will mean the black market will take a hit, as so many dodgy deals are greased with cash. It may even reduce drug sales on our streets. We need to stop whingeing and move into the future.

A. D., Birkenhead, Merseyside.

MY DAUGHTER is in her 50s and has learning difficulties. She used credit cards for a while, but got herself into such a mess that her social workers stopped her from having them. There are countless people like her who rely on cash.

T.V., by email.

IF CASH dies out then sports clubs and teams will lose out on billions. Many rely on spectators bringing cash for things such as half-time draws and fundraising raffles. Football, rugby, cricket, hockey and tennis clubs will all be affected.

D. P., Halifax., Yorkshire.

I WORK in cash processing and well over half of my company’s staff, including myself, have been furloughed. There is a very real concern that not all of us will return to work after this, and at my age, I will find it difficult to find another job.
