Cyclists are a menace!

-

I AM in full agreement with those complaining about the cyclists who are pavement menaces (Letters).

If cycling is encouraged it will be hell for us pensioners. Why is it cyclists can treat the law with contempt, as if it is their right to cycle where they want?

If you stop them and tell them they should not be cycling on pavements you get abuse and bad language.

They are meant to drive on the road yet are exempt from the theory test and proficiency exam that moped, scooter, motorcycle and car drivers must pass. They should also pay insurance and tax the same as all other road users.

Not all cyclists comply with the Highway Code by wearing helmets or visibility bands, or use hand signals. They have become a protected species and can do whatever they want.

The millions the Government is putting aside for bike lanes should be given to the police to clamp down on cyclists’ rash behaviour.

THE way some cyclists behave makes it obvious they have never been on the road before and simply don’t know the Highway Code.

It is ridiculous that anyone can use public roads with no qualifications.

Worst of all are the parent and child groups, with the latter weaving around in front and about to fall off, while mummy and daddy shield from the rear and ride wide to block the road. Then there are those with a small child perched on the back of the bike in some kind of pillion seat arrangement. They seem to think they have priority over other traffic, plus a magic shield around them.

LESLEY Stoddart is correct when she complains about cyclists illegally using the pavements (Letters).

Edinburgh and Glasgow’s councils are closing certain roads as ‘emergency measures for cyclists and walkers’. Strange how they can find money for this but not to fill the thousands of potholes in our roads.

Accidents are caused by cyclists, the hooligans of the pavements, and with no identification system they are never caught.

I dread proposals to allow electric scooters. Riding on pavements would be illegal but there is little chance of them being caught. It’s a recipe for pedestrian deaths and injuries.
