Naomi attacks catwalk ‘waste’ as she ponders fashion’s future
Naomi Campbell fears she won’t be returning to a runway for the foreseeable future and the days of catwalks may be over.
‘i cannot think about going to a fashion show any time soon,’ she says. ‘i’ve tried to work out in my mind, how would they be? i am aware of a few people that are planning virtual fashion shows so you won’t need us any more.’
The supermodel, who turns 50 next week, thinks the current pandemic could have long-lasting repercussions. ‘it’s going to be very interesting to see all of the models that come out of this, and how we can find another way to present people’s collections because now, we build a set, you show it for 20 minutes and then you’re done with it. That is a waste.’
Campbell, who is in lockdown in New York, says she is enjoying her new lifestyle. ‘Having a routine helps in the morning. it’s get up, hit my floor, pray, shower — i love it.
‘i love structure and i’m loving being still.
‘i’m really enjoying this time of reflection and embracing the unknown and trying to think of things you want to change within yourself and make your life more simple. it’s decluttering the mind.’
