WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND

A STATEMENT SKIRT

THE NEW DRESSING UP

ReMeMBeR life pre-lockdown? When we cared about what we were wearing from the waist down?

Well i’m starting to miss dressing up my bottom half. i’m ready to pack up the leggings, tracksuit pants and pyjama bottoms and put on something that sacrifices a little of our new-found comfort on the altar of style.

in the strange chaos of the past two months, i think we’ve forgotten that it’s OK to dress up just for fun; not because anyone is going to see you, but because it makes you feel good about yourself.

MAKE DATE NIGHT SHINE

FOR me, the ultimate at-home party piece is a shiny, daring statement skirt. i’m not someone who always enjoys getting dressed up, but i’ve been longing to wear something fancy for weeks. i’m not at the point of ‘taking the bins out in a ballgown’ like celebs seem to be — partly because i don’t own a ballgown and partly because my bins are absolutely disgusting at this point — but i could make more effort for an evening in with my husband.

QUALITY STYLE

i’M STARTiNG with this Quality Street toffee penny-inspired skirt from essentiel Antwerp. Stuff the Zoom meeting, i’m turning the waist-up rules on their head by wearing a fun, jazzy skirt no one will see. At least until i make an excuse to stand up and show it off.

PICK BOLD PRINTS

A HiGH-WAiSTeD midi is the go-to skirt style this season, and it’s typically a safe, flattering choice. So have fun with your colours, prints, hemlines, tiers and embellishments. Mine got a serious dressing down for home wear when i teamed it with grandma’s favourite cashmere cardi. And for footwear? Heels for the pic, but otherwise slippers. Obviously.
