BERLIN’S nightlife has a long and disruptive history. Before World War II, cabaret artistes risked their lives mocking the Nazis; more recently, Berlin became a centre for innovation and inspiration. This vibrant counterculture was already under threat — thanks to gentrification and rising rents — before coronavirus clipped clubbers’ wings.
