Before World War II, cabaret artistes risked their lives mocking the Nazis; more recently, Berlin became a centre for innovation and inspiratio­n. This vibrant countercul­ture was already under threat — thanks to gentrifica­tion and rising rents — before coronaviru­s clipped clubbers’ wings. The DJ Emily Dust presents ART OF NOW (RADIO 4, 11.30AM), sharing memories of Berlin’s nightlife, and wondering about its future.
