Carrie on clapping!

In her first outing since becoming a mum, PM’s partner is a picture of health as she honours the NHS frontline

SIDE by side in Downing Street last night, Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds make their first appearance together since the birth of their son as they join the Clap for Our Carers.

The Prime Minister and his fiancee, who welcomed baby Wilfred two weeks ago, stood by the doorstep of No 10 to join the national applause for NHS staff and other key workers.

It is the first time Miss Symonds, 32, has been seen in public since becoming a mother and thanking the NHS for caring for her through the birth.

She looked well and smiled for the cameras but she and Mr Johnson chose not to bring Wilfred with them. It was also their first outing as a couple since both recovered from Covid-19 – the virus left the Prime Minister in intensive care last month.

Mr Johnson, 55, also paid tribute to the NHS for saving his life and, in recognition of the work of the two doctors who treated him, Wilfred was given the middle name Nicholas.

Last night was the eighth time the nation has stood on its doorsteps to clap key workers and the show of support at 8pm every Thursday shows little sign of waning. Miss Symonds and Mr Johnson have either applauded or tweeted on each occasion.
