Ferry nice for Lady Alice
FiFty days into lockdown and what have we learned? Primarily that all lockdowns are not equal.
in the Moray town of Elgin, police were called as traffic came to a standstill and tempers rose when the local drive-in Burger King reopened. Never get between a Scotsman and his flame-grilled Whopper, is all i am saying.
it was the most exciting thing to have happened in the Highland town since the Beatles — described on posters as ‘the Love Me Do boys’ — played the local ballroom in 1963.
Meanwhile, Lady Alice Manners has been spending her lockdown in the family seat — 356-room Belvoir Castle. Keeping her company are family, horses and boyfriend Otis Ferry (right). How is that going?
‘i’m surviving,’ she told the times newspaper, stoically. ‘i actually don’t mind it, you know? i secretly quite like being quite reclusive, as long as i’m out in the countryside and not in London. We’re not asked that much, really, just stay at home. i think all the complaining is a bit much.’
But even this radiant aristo has the occasional glimmer of self-awareness. ‘Obviously,’ she added, ‘everyone’s in different circumstances.’
indeed we are, Lady Alice! Few of us are skipping around the fragrant hedgerows of a 16,000-acre estate with one of Bryan Ferry’s handsome sons to keep us company. How can she stand it, is what i want to know. Girl deserves a medal.
