Kelty write to Doncaster
EXCLUSIVE
KELTY HEARTS last night fired the starting gun in the legal fightback against the SPFL’s season-ending resolution. The Lowland League champions were denied the chance to fight for a place in League Two when a line was drawn through their end-of-season play-off with Brora Rangers, with the winner scheduled to take on Brechin City. Outraged at what they believe is an absence of natural justice throughout the leagues, Kelty have engaged the services of a solicitor advocate, who today wrote to SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster seeking justification for what has happened. Working in tandem with Brora, Kelty intend pursuing the matter through the courts if necessary but are hopeful that the resurrection of reconstruction talks can yet prevent that. While neither Hearts, Partick Thistle nor Stranraer — the three clubs who stand to be relegated — are mentioned in Kelty’s legal papers, any courtroom battle would plainly have implications for them. Stranraer, who have been relegated from League One, have already vowed to ‘explore all avenues’ with ‘likeminded clubs’. Hearts have yet to say as much publicly but are expected to do so once their relegation from the Premiership is confirmed. Thistle, who have been relegated from the Championship, have also left the door open for legal action.
