Probe after six firefighters come down with the virus
SIX firefighters have tested positive for coronavirus at a station in Glasgow.
The workers, based at Springburn, began self-isolating after being diagnosed and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service carried out an investigation.
Its report has been forwarded to the Health and Safety Executive.
Roddie Keith, the local senior SFRS officer, said: ‘We have robust arrangements in place for any staff who are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms.
‘This includes access to testing and I can confirm that six firefighters at Springburn fire station in Glasgow recently tested positive for the virus.
‘All of our staff members who tested positive then followed national health guidance in relation to self-isolating.
‘They continue to receive the full support of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.’
Specialist contractors were called in to carry out a thorough clean of the station and appliances. Mr Keith added: ‘The station remains fully operational and I would like to pay tribute to our staff at Springburn who have worked through this challenging time in a highly professional manner.’
Meanwhile, a sixth prisoner with suspected coronavirus has died in Scotland.
The Scottish Prison Service has announced the death of Perth prison inmate Alex Drysdale, 6 . He was convicted at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in February.
A fatal accident inquiry will be held ‘in due course’.
According to the latest figures, 21 prisoners are self-isolating at six locations, of whom two have tested positive for Covid-19.
