EAT YOUR HEART OUT, MRS HINCH!
Curling champ practises sweeping in kitchen, leaving floor sparkling
IT IS a chore most people would try to put off until it is absolutely necessary.
But curling champion Sophie Sinclair can lay claim to the cleanest kitchen floor in Scotland – after using it as a place to practise her sweeping skills.
The 23-year-old has been unable to get on the ice due to lockdown restrictions, so has been using her slippery kitchen floor to continue training as she aims for a place at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
And the result is something that cleaning sensation Sophie Hinchliffe, better known as Mrs Hinch, would be proud of. Though whether the 30-year-old Instagram star would include it in her housekeeping tips is another matter.
Miss Sinclair and her team-mates have been consulting a psychologist over the internet to help them progress. She says visualisation techniques, including imagining the sound of the ice, have helped with her confidence.
She said: ‘This is an unprecedented time, so the psychologist is trying everything to get us ready for our return to the ice and for the Olympics. I have also been continuing my sweeping with my brush in the kitchen as the floor is very slippy. It helps me practise and keep my position and helps with the motion of the movement.’
The young athlete, who lives on her parents’ strawberry farm in Queensferry, West Lothian, has also built her own gym in the shed so she can keep fit.
Miss Sinclair, who won the Scottish Championships last year, has been off the ice for two months and is unsure when her training rink in Stirling will reopen.
She added: ‘It is strange because I’m so used to being on the ice every day, so I’ve been finding myself a bit lost.’
