Fitness fad that made bra tycoon’s fiance snap

- By Stuart MacDonald

SHE made her name in the business world with a silicone gel-filled bra.

Now Michelle Mone may turn her attention to the fitness industry after a workout mishap left her fiance writhing in agony.

Baroness Mone, 48, said Scots businessman Doug Barrowman, 55, was left howling in pain after a resistance band snapped and hit him in the face when they were taking part in an online boot camp at their home on the Isle of Man.

The Glaswegian Ultimo founder and Tory peer says she is considering inventing a non-snap resistance band to prevent similar injuries among fitness enthusiasts.

Speaking to Scots presenter Jenni Falconer’s Runpod podcast about staying in shape, she said: ‘It’s a partner boot camp, so he puts the band round his waist and I’m pulling him.

‘The band snapped and it slapped him right in the face. He was screaming. He kind of went off in a huff with a big line across his face. So maybe I need to invent a band that doesn’t snap.’

The couple were to marry in London this month but postponed the ceremony due to the pandemic.
