WELCOME RETURN

MADEIRA and Porto Santo will open to international travellers on July 1, with all visitors being tested for the coronavirus on arrival free of charge.

The islands were the first regions of Portugal to launch a document outlining good practices for tourism. A control plan on February 3 banned all nonessential flights, with any arrivals undergoing health screening and being quarantined in hotels for 14 days. There have been 90 cases of Covid-19 on the islands and no fatalities.

BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE

DURING the coronavirus crisis, Trailfinders

(trailfinders.com) has consistently been praised for prioritising customers. It has reimbursed travellers even when airlines have dragged their feet over returning fares. The firm releases holiday offers each week, including seven nights all-inclusive at seafront hotel Barcelo Teguise Beach, in Lanzarote, from £999 pp with flights.

GRAND REOPENING

THERE’S good news for art lovers as the Rijksmuseum (rijksmuseum.nl/en) re-opens on June 1.

The Netherlands’ national museum will use pre-booked tickets with strict date and time slots to help control social distancing. An exhibition exploring the work of the painter Caravaggio and the sculptor Bernini has been extended until September 13.

BOOKING AHEAD

DESTINOLOGY has released deals for 2021. The travel company — recommended by Which? as a UK tour operator trading fairly during the coronavirus — is offering seven nights all-inclusive in Cancun, Mexico, with flights from £1,479pp in January.

Or book a seven-night B&B family break in the Costa Navarino, Greece, with flights, from £750 pp (destinology.co.uk).
