MADEIRA and Porto Santo will open to international travellers on July 1, with all visitors being tested for the coronavirus on arrival free of charge.
The islands were the first regions of Portugal to launch a document outlining good practices for tourism. A control plan on February 3 banned all nonessential flights, with any arrivals undergoing health screening and being quarantined in hotels for 14 days. There have been 90 cases of Covid-19 on the islands and no fatalities.
