What will happen during phase two of easing lockdown?
FRIENDS AND FAMILY
People living alone – or single parents living only with children under the age of 18 - can agree with another household to form an ‘extended household’, allowing them to have indoor meetings without social distancing from today. They can then be treated like another member of their household for all lockdown rules. Anyone can now meet with two other households at the same time outdoors, up to a maximum of eight people. When visiting another household, going indoors to use the toilet is now allowed. People who are shielding are able to leave their home to take exercise from yesterday, and can now meet with one other household outdoors from today. They can also take part in noncontact outdoor activities such as golf, hiking or fishing.
TRAVEL
People should continue to stay in their local area – broadly within a radius of five miles – as much as possible and should not travel further for leisure or recreation. However, this is not legally enforceable and longer journeys are allowed to see family. Public transport services will increase over the phase – but face coverings will be mandatory for travellers.
PUBS AND RESTAURANTS
Restaurants and pubs will remain closed, while plans to open outdoor dining and beer gardens have been put on hold.
SHOPPING
All shops which can be accessed from the street, and outdoor markets can reopen from June 29, although those based in shopping centres or malls must remain closed for now. Face masks may be made mandatory.
SPORT
From the start of next week, June 22, professional sport can resume behind closed doors –
Safety first: Masks may be compulsory with health restrictions remaining in place. Outdoor sports courts and playgrounds can reopen from June 29.
BUSINESS
Factories, warehouses, laboratories and other indoor non-office workplaces can reopen again and construction sites can reopen from 29 June but non-essential offices and call centres remain closed and people are still urged to work from home. The construction sector can get fully up-and-running from Monday. Zoos and garden attractions can open for people who stay within around five miles from June 29. Restrictions on house moves lifted from June 29.
HEALTH
Dental practices can re-open to see patients with urgent care needs. The NHS will continue to ‘remobilise’ services like GP surgeries, chronic pain management and health screening. A ‘phased resumption’ of care home visiting will begin.
CEREMONIES
Marriages and civil partnerships can go ahead outdoors with limited attendees from June 29. Registration offices open for high priority tasks. Places of worship can re-open for individual prayer or contemplation from Monday.
