My life story is too dull for words, says Rebus writer

- By Stuart MacDonald

REBUS author Ian Rankin has ruled out ever writing an autobiography – because he says his life has been too boring.

The writer insisted he will stick to making up stories as he has a terrible memory and a memoir would be dull for his millions of fans.

Fife-born Rankin, below, has sold more than 20million books in his series about the hardbitten Edinburgh detective.

However, he said his own life story would consist of tales of sitting around writing books and drinking pints in Edinburgh’s Oxford Bar.

Asked in an online fans’ question and answer session if he would pen an autobiography, he said: ‘No. I have not lived a very exciting life.

‘I get all my adventures on the page and in my head. What is there to write about? Sat and wrote a book, that took six months, toured with the book, that took six months, repeat.

‘I have also got a terrible memory, I would be the worst person in the world.’
