Should young people be freer of lockdown rules?

-

PEOPLE enjoying sea, sun and sand on beaches are mostly young people and are outside — at least a metre distance was being observed. Is this really such a danger? To date, 401 people under the age of 45 have died from Covid-19. There are around 35million people in the UK in that age group. So why are they subject to the same lockdown rules as those who are more vulnerable? At the start of lockdown, we were told we were protecting the NHS. The NHS has coped amazingly well and the worst is almost certainly past. Leave young people alone to enjoy their lives, to return to work and start living a normal life again. viRginia tWEEDy, sindlesham, Berks. The second Covid spike is not going to come from children returning to school or people returning to work. It will come from children out partying in parks every day, along with the furloughed young adults doing the same, particularly when the pubs open. Want to stop a new spike? Cancel furlough money from July 14, and order people back to work. Ditto with those teachers and schoolchildren. That will slow a second spike and boost the economy at the same time. THE scenes of large numbers of mainly young people cramming together on beaches, street parties, raves etc is certainly very unnerving. These folk may feel invincible themselves, but seem oblivious to the risk they pose to others including their parents, grandparents and family. The Government should get celebrities and social media to reach them with relevant messaging.
