Hibs want a fee as Kamberi loan return rejected

- By JOHN GREECHAN

RANGERS will have to stump up a transfer fee for Florian Kamberi after Hibs rejected their offer of another loan deal for the striker. Kamberi is back training with the Easter Road club but has no interest in seeing out the final year of his contract. The Swiss forward impressed Rangers boss Steven Gerrard after moving to Ibrox on loan for the second half of last season. Hibs were equally pleased with the performances of midfielder Greg Docherty, who moved from Rangers to Easter Road as part of the same temporary deal. But Sportsmail understands that a Rangers proposal to repeat that arrangement for all of season 2020-21 has been turned down by Hibs manager Jack Ross. And the capital club have made

it clear they will only accept a deal that permanently shifts Kamberi off of their books before his deal expires next summer. The 25-year-old caused uproar when, on arrival at Ibrox last season, hailing the Rangers support as ‘the best fans in the world’ and declaring he had been desperate to play for the Light Blues since he first lined against them for Hibs. With Steven Whittaker, Vykintas Slivka and Stephane Omeonga all having left Hibs since last season was brought to a halt, Ross is eager to bolster his midfield options. While Docherty’s return would solve a problem for Hibs, they are holding out for a deal that also involves a fee — and believe interest from other clubs in Kamberi will firm up in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Rangers have confirmed the sale of Matt Polster to New England Revolution in a deal thought to be worth around £350,000. ‘We accepted a bid for Matt last week and wish him every success,’ said Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson. ‘We respect his desire to play regularly and he will be afforded that opportunity back in the US.’
