DEPP’S MESSAGE IN BLOOD

High on ecstasy, actor ‘scrawled on mirror with severed finger, trashed house and choked wife’

- By Sam Greenhill Chief Reporter

JOHNNY Depp used his severed finger as a paintbrush to write ‘I love you’ on a mirror after rowing with his new wife, the High Court heard yesterday.

The actor left blood and paint on walls, sofas and floors as he ‘completely destroyed’ a house he was renting in Australia while filming a Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.

In what Amber Heard branded a ‘threeday hostage situation’, the Hollywood legend is alleged to have guzzled a ‘handful’ of ecstasy pills before subjecting the actress to a terrifying ordeal.

The court was told Depp choked Miss Heard against a fridge and threatened to ‘crush’ her neck, spat in her face and hurled her over a ping pong table which then collapsed – all while swigging a bottle of spirits.

Depp, who accused Miss Heard of having an affair with actor Billy Bob Thornton, then threw ‘bottle after bottle’ at her before causing £130,000 of damage to the villa, the court heard.

Sasha Wass QC told the court about Depp’s rampage on day three of a blockbuster libel case. The actor is suing The Sun newspaper for a 2018 article calling him a wife beater.

Depp has repeatedly denied ever hitting Miss Heard, 34.

Yesterday the self-confessed drug and alcohol addict, 57, said he had told Miss Heard ‘several times’ that ‘we are a crime scene waiting to happen’.

Miss Wass took him through a litany of alleged assaults, including the episode in Australia in March 2015 – just a month after the couple had married.

Depp claims his finger was severed when Miss Heard threw a vodka bottle at him which smashed on his hand resting on the kitchen counter. She says he did it when he smashed a retro-style Bakelite telephone against a wall in a rage.

That night, Miss Heard barricaded herself in the bedroom and came downstairs the next morning to find music blaring and ‘everything destroyed’, including a £10,000 television.

Depp had daubed ‘I love you’ in blood on a bathroom mirror, before switching to black paint which he dipped the injured finger into ‘when my blood ran out’. Miss

Wass said that, having taken ‘ten ecstasy tablets’ and drunk Jack Daniel’s whiskey, Depp did not realise how injured he was.

‘When Miss Heard came down and saw complete carnage... you held up your right hand bleeding profusely and said “look what you made me do”,’ she said.

Depp insisted this was ‘not true’. He is said to have had a ‘nap’ while waiting for his security team to take him to hospital.

He blamed Miss Heard for his finger but the court heard he had texted his doctor saying: ‘I am so very sad. I cut the top of my finger off. What should I do, except of course go to hospital.’

The cocaine user then texted his assistant: ‘Need more whitey stuff ASAP brother man.’

Months earlier, Depp ‘sobbed like a child’ on his 45-acre island in the Bahamas as he attempted to reduce his dependence on prescription painkillers in May 2014. He allegedly had ‘several manic episodes’ and slapped, kicked and grabbed Miss Heard by the hair when he did not get his ‘meds’.

Depp said: ‘Miss Heard often withheld medicines to me, which caused me substantial issues, including spasms and other withdrawal symptoms.

‘This was one of the cruellest things that she has ever done and I would not wish the pain that I

had gone through upon anyone.’ In a text message to Miss Heard’s mother Paige, Depp said he would be dead without her.

‘What you need to know is that your daughter has risen far above the nightmarish task of taking care of this poor old junkie,’ he wrote. ‘Never a second has gone by that she didn’t look out for me or have her eyes on me to make sure that I was OK. I couldn’t have made it without her. I wouldn’t be alive.’ He later wrote a text to Miss Heard that read: ‘Thanks so much for getting me **** ing clean baby’.

The court heard of another ‘fight’ in September 2014, after which Depp was found with bloodied knuckles after punching a whiteboard at home in LA. He told his doctor by text message: ‘I will **** ing savage some mother **** er.’

Depp told the court he would rather ‘express my anger by hitting an inanimate object than thinking of taking it out on the person I love’. In another drugfuelled episode in a Tokyo hotel room in January 2015 – a month before the couple’s wedding – Depp allegedly slapped Miss Heard and wrestled her to the floor while his children were in the adjoining room. He is said to have blamed ‘the monster’ afterwards.

When asked about a text message from one of his staff referring to ‘giant monster attacks’, Depp said: ‘Giant monster attacks in Tokyo? I believe he was referring to Godzilla.’

In November 2015, Depp is alleged to have thrown a ‘heavy glass decanter’ at Miss Heard.

On another occasion, when she accused him of having an affair, he began smashing things with an empty whisky bottle.

The court heard that when Miss Heard’s sister Whitney tried to intervene, Depp branded her an ‘ugly old **** ’ and shoved her out the way, striking her arm, so he could get to his wife. Miss Wass said: ‘Miss Heard shouted “don’t hit my sister”, and Miss Heard then hit you – the first time Miss Heard had ever caused physical injury to you.’ Depp said the allegations – and the claim he had an affair – were untrue.

The case is expected to continue for another two weeks.
