MONE: I HAD BREAKDOWN

- By David Meikle

‘I didn’t even want to get out of bed’

SHE built up a multi-million-pound business empire and was rewarded with a place in the House of Lords.

But Scots Ultimo lingerie tycoon Michelle Mone has revealed she fought a secret battle with depression, brought on by the collapse of her marriage.

Baroness Mone, 48, went through a bitter divorce with Michael Mone, 53, eight years ago. The mother of three said she was left broken for two years following the breakdown of their relationship.

She said: ‘In 2012, it was the worst time of my life. There were times I didn’t even want to get up out of my bed.

‘I had a breakdown. Just dealing with the divorce and buying my ex-husband out of the company and dealing with the children, and all the heartbreak around me. People sometimes see you as this person that you’re not but I suppose as long as your family and friends know who you really are and give you the strength, you have to try your best to come out of it.’

She added: ‘It took me a long time, probably two years. I didn’t know who I was, didn’t know who I could trust and I didn’t know if I could ever be successful again.’

The Glasgow-born peer is now due to marry businessman Doug Barrowman, 55, a fellow Scot, and says she is the happiest she has ever been.

On a video on her Twitter page, she added: ‘Sometimes people don’t know what goes on behind closed doors and we should never judge people. I know that because I have gone through it myself.’
