ROMANTIC DRAMA Little Voice, Apple TV+

PLEASANT, ten-part drama — co-produced by J.J. Abrams — about Bess King, a shy woman in her 20s, who writes songs constantly, but can’t bring herself to perform them. Brittany O’Grady plays her with a soft charm.

HORROR SEQUEL It Chapter Two, 8pm, Sky Premiere

STEPHEN KING’S deeply creepy clown Pennywise is back. The kids he terrorised in the first film are all grown up, yet still have fears to face. James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain star.

CLASSIC SITCOM Porridge, 9pm, Yesterday

ALONG with Open All Hours, this prison comedy was the product of a remarkable scheme in which Ronnie Barker starred in seven different TV pilots. These are the first three episodes (not including that pilot), in which Fletcher (Barker) shows new prisoner Godber the ropes.

GOOD EATING James Martin’s United Cakes Of America, 9pm, Food Network

THE chef’s easy-going series has its Freeview debut. Martin is touring the U.S. in a convertibl­e, and his first stop is Virginia, a state with 47,000 farms. There, he learns about the classic apple pie and cooks up his own twist: the apple crumble cake.

BELGIAN CRIME Code 37, 9pm, More4

THE tension between Hannah (Veerle Baetens) and Kevin, her vice squad minion, edges up another notch in this new episode of the earthy sex crimes drama. The pair are called to a suspected rape at a psychiatri­c institutio­n, and swiftly learn they can’t apply their usual cavalier questionin­g style to the patients inside.

ACTION FLICK The Old Guard, Netflix

CHARLIZE THERON (pictured) plays the oldest and deadliest of a band of immortal warriors: 6,000-year-old Andromache of Scythia — Andy for short — who has become tired of protecting an ungrateful world. That committed performanc­e anchors a two-hour film that otherwise focuses on thrilling us with expertly choreograp­hed fights.

RUMBA ISLAND Huey Morgan’s Latin Music Adventure, 9.30pm, BBC4

PART two takes Huey to Cuba, where the government runs the record business, and years of internatio­nal isolation have helped to craft a unique musical identity. In a highlight, Huey (pictured with singer and dancer Brenda Navarrete) is treated to a display of rumba that is as exciting as the local man who explains the musical style to him is cool.

FOOD FUN Big Zuu’s Big Eats, 10pm, Dave

THE comedian Ed Gamble is Zuu’s penultimat­e guest and, if there’s one thing the enthusiast­ic chef knows about the comic, it’s that he’s ‘proper into cheese’. Gamble claims not to trust anyone who dislikes it, although he makes honourable exceptions for vegans and the lactose intolerant.
