Ken’s right about the wasteful BBC

-

Thank you, wonderful Ken Bruce, for stating what a great many people think of the BBC’s management (Mail). The BBC is not only top heavy; it is positively obese with management for this, that and the other. The TV comedy W1A did not even begin to portray the culture of jobs for the boys and girls that pervades the BBC. This organisation could easily lose half its management and still function perfectly well. The money saved could go towards retaining the free TV licence for the over-75s and to make some new programmes, instead of broadcasting yet another repeat of the quiz show Pointless. Please, Boris, do something with the BBC — after all, it is licence-payers’ money that is being wasted. And give our Ken a pay rise. he presents the most popular radio show in the country, but is paid a lot less than Steve Wright and Zoe Ball.

Ken Bruce underlines what viewers have thought for years. To carry on with excess salaries, it is taking away the free licence for the over-75s, many of whom rely on the TV for company. When you are restricted from going out, it helps pass many lonely hours. a. a. Foster, northampton.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ken Bruce for speaking out about managerial over-staffing at the BBC. Despite being one of its brightest stars, he seems to be grossly underpaid and under-valued.

FOR those of us who do not get pension credit, it is devastating that the BBC is axing the free TV licence for the over-75s. My husband and I are 76, so have had the free licence for only one year. We will now have to pay £157.50. We try to be careful with money and, like so many other pensioners, would rather go without than get into debt. When you add up the sheer waste of money at the BBC on overpaid presenters and middle managers, it seems so unfair that they are targeting pensioners.

A Solution to the over-spending by the BBC is readily available. Why not sell the Corporation to Russia? The BBC is a ready-made platform for Russian propaganda because it is anti-government and left-wing. The benefits to Russia are obvious as it needs only to maintain BBC policies and systems to quickly bring about its goals. The benefit to the taxpayers would be the removal of an irksome tax and endless repeats.

Alexander Smith, northampton.
