Have Harry and Meghan been hard done by?

INSTEAD of being called Finding Freedom, the new biography of Harry and Meghan should be called Finding Grievances. Prince William is charged by his brother of snobbishness after urging him to be cautious in his relationship. However, William did not marry an aristocrat, but rather the daughter of self-made parents. The Duchess of Cambridge and her family bore slights, prejudices and vilifications with admirable stoicism. Knowing what his wife went through, William was showing not just brotherly concern but great perspicacity as to what may lay ahead for Harry and Meghan.

AT THE time of their spectacular wedding at Windsor, the nation was happy that Harry had at last found the woman with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life. But even then, there were warning signs as to their priorities with the choice of celebrity guests and the exclusion of some family members. Thankfully, William and Kate give their total support to the Queen and they are the ones who matter.

HARRY and Meghan have every right to feel aggrieved. The only option they were given was to be back-up Royals waving from the balcony of Buckingham Palace at special events. They share passionate beliefs about racism, women’s rights and climate change, so is it wrong that they should choose their own way to spread these vital messages?

ON ONE hand, we have Princess Anne celebrating her 70th birthday. Down to earth, no nonsense and hard working, she is unlikely to take much notice of criticism and is not averse to using salty language while telling someone to go away. On the other, we have the Sussexes, vying to become the king and queen of wokeness. They appear to feel entitled and take offence easily. Seeing how happy, or not, these two generations of the Royals appear to be is a lesson for us all.
