Back garden B ftas
Stars pose in a shed, mowing lawn and on trampoline (but still dress for the red carpet)
THERE is no red carpet this year – just patio furniture and even a garden shed.
But the fact that the Bafta nominees face spending UK television’s glitziest night stuck in their homes has not stopped them dressing to the nines.
Suranne Jones, Samantha Morton and Glenda Jackson were among stars posing for Paisley-born photographer Rankin ahead of tomorrow’s virtual ceremony.
And incredibly, virus restrictions meant it was all done without the snapper even visiting their homes. Instead, the 53-yearold took the portraits through video calls set up by the thespians in their houses.
Miss Jones, 41, up for leading actress for her role in ITV’s Gentleman Jack, chose a cluttered garden shed as her backdrop. But her sharp white suit added a touch of glamour to the proceedings – as did the Bafta award next to her, which she won in 2016 for her role in Dr Foster. Meanwhile her rival for leading actress, Miss Morton, struck a rather more risque pose. The 43year-old, who played a single mother in I am Kirsty, clutched her hands together to cover her seemingly naked top half.
And Stephen Graham, 46, was jumping for joy at his leading actor nomination for his role in Channel 4’s The Virtues. The star, from Kirkby, near Liverpool, was pictured leaping on a trampoline in his back garden while sockless in a blue suit.
Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn seemed to view the photoshoot as an opportunity to give the lawn a quick trim. The actress, 26 – nominated for a ‘must see moment’ for her role as cancerstricken Sinead Tinker – wore a white dress, playfully matched with gardening gloves while sitting on a ride-on mower.
And for Miss Jackson, 84, who is up for leading actress for her role in the BBC ’s Elizabeth is Missing, there will be no waiters bringing round bottles of bubbly – just a cuppa at the patio table. The ceremony is on BBC1 tomorrow at 7pm.
