Satellite choice
WINTRY WILDLIFE Spy In The Snow, 12 noon, 8pm, Eden
JOHN DOWNER, the film-maker who gave us Elephants: Spy In The Herd and other similar, ingenious hidden-camera documentaries, focuses on the issues of living in the snow for this mesmerising one-off. He shows us polar bears (pictured), penguins, otters and more.
FOOTBALL Wolverhampton Wanderers v Sevilla, 7pm, BT Sport 1
IT HAS been 48 years since Wolves last competed in a European quarterfinal. Their Spanish opponents are unbeaten in their last 18 games and will provide strong opposition in this one-off Europa League tie.
MILITARY FACILITY Inside Porton Down: Britain’s Secret Weapons Research Facility, 9pm, BBC4
AN air of danger surrounds this documentary, in which Michael Mosley films inside the secretive complex, inhales CS gas, and challenges its head over a 1953 tragedy. There’s also some horrid footage of a rabbit being given sarin.
SENSUAL DRAMA Little Birds, 9pm, Sky Atlantic
SKY’S Moroccan awakenings drama can look almost comically sensuous at times, until it suddenly takes a turn into the dangerous. That happens twice tonight — once for heiress Lucy, once for dominatrix Cherifa — and this new episode is a turning point for both of them.
KILLER FAMILY Prodigal Son, 9pm, Sky One
BELLAMY YOUNG (pictured) is great at playing clever, complicated women with secrets. She did it with flair on Scandal, and she’s doing it again here as the mum who, in order to protect her children, swallowed the trauma of being married to a serial killer: ‘I enjoy books on tape. Gin also works.’
TRUE TALE Bad Education, Virgin Movies
THIS true-life drama about a New York school embezzlement scandal has top-tier stars in Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney.
FREEVIEW MOVIE Disobedience, 9pm, Film4
RACHEL WEISZ and Rachel McAdams star in this adaptation of the novel by Naomi Alderman. Weisz is the woman who fled a strict Jewish community in North London; returning after the death of her father, she has a passionate reunion with her childhood friend (McAdams).
CLASSIC SITCOM Blackadder Goes Forth, 10pm, BBC4
A GLORIOUS repeat for the finest Blackadder of all. It’s the finest because the comedy is constantly grounded by the poignancy of its World War I setting: ‘Last one in Berlin’s a rotten egg!’ enthuses George (Hugh Laurie) at the news they might be going over the top here.
MOVING STORIES Mega Shippers, 10pm, Quest
LARGE items are moved long distances in this new series. The delicate cargo in episode one includes the TP 52 racing yacht (‘Normal mortals can’t afford them’) and a 111-year-old train carriage on its way to be refurbished in Hull; it soon becomes clear how much care is involved in their transport.
FILM FANTASY The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, 10.15pm, Sky Premiere
FAMOUSLY, Terry Gilliam’s film, loosely inspired by Cervantes’s medieval novel, was almost 30 years in the making. Jonathan Pryce (pictured) stars as the comic hero, alongside Adam Driver and Stellan Skarsgard.
