Rod and Penny’s sunset song

Rod and Penny bob along on a yacht and a gondola

- By Dominique Hines

KEEPING up a jet-set lifestyle during the pandemic seems to be plain sailing for Sir Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster.

The couple took a romantic gondola ride through the canals of Venice, where they are on holiday, and stopped for ice cream (though not, apparently, a Cornetto).

And they have also spent time on a yacht, with Miss Lancaster posting a picture on Instagram of them cuddling up on deck with the singer holding a glass of wine.

Pictures of them strolling around the Italian city at the weekend show the couple sticking to the Covid-19 rules in their own colourful way in vibrant face masks.

Sir Rod, 75, wore a mask featuring the colours of his favourite football club, Celtic, and cut a youthful figure in a butterfly print shirt, cream cropped trousers and yellow New Balance trainers.

His 49-year-old wife also opted for a stand-out face covering, in an eye-catching leopard print.

When Miss Lancaster, a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women, posted an image of the Scots rocker in his mask on Instagram, fans were delighted. In a reference to one of Sir Rod’s songs, one wrote: ‘You wear that lovely mask well.’

It’s not the first time that the pair have been snapped sticking to the rules on face coverings. Sir Rod also tweeted a picture of himself wearing a leopard print one earlier this month.

The pair have been leading quite the travelling lifestyle as they’ve spent the past few months between London, Florida and Croatia.

Both have been abiding by the rules imposed by the countries they have been visiting during the pandemic. The Italian government states that masks must be worn outdoors between 6pm and 6am, with people advised to carry one around at all times.

Miss Lancaster has been keeping her social media followers up to date with what they’ve been getting up to on their travels. Last Thursday, she shared more images from Italy, uploading a picture of a table piled high with plates of seafood and rose wine.

The couple’s sons Alastair, 14, and Aiden, nine, are also believed to have joined them in Venice.
