GOW FRONTING FRESH TAKEOVER BID FOR FALKIRK

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

FORMER Falkirk striker Alan Gow is heading up a seven-figure bid to secure control of the League One club. Gow fronted an Indian consortium seeking to buy the Bairns before Mark Campbell was named as preferred bidder last year. Campbell’s takeover quest collapsed last November. Now the appointment of former Rangers and Hibernian forward Gow as the new head of football operations on Thursday has fired the starting gun on a fresh attempt to grab the reins. A Falkirk player for two seasons, Gow has the financial backing of a group of local businessmen and fans. The group have already secured verbal agreements to buy up a number of shares subject to ratification at an EGM, with Gow’s group also willing to invest six figures in a new rights issue if they gain control. The plans are likely be discussed today at a meeting of the Falkirk board set up to rubberstamp Gow’s appointment as the club’s new head of football operations, in charge of coaches David McCracken and Lee Miller. In a club statement, Gow said: ‘I’ve always had a special relationship with Falkirk and the club’s fans. I have fond memories of my time at the club so, as you can imagine, I’m delighted to accept the new role and excited to get started. ‘The last few years have been difficult for everyone associated with the club but I believe we can have a bright future if we all pull in the right direction. ‘One of the things I can immediately bring to the table is an extensive network of contacts that can assist with identifying the right type of players we need at this football club and who can help us on our journey back to the Premiership. ‘Change won’t occur overnight but I believe that in conjunction with David and Lee we’re putting in solid foundations to build this club back to the level it should be.’
