Get set for 6 INCHES of rainfall this weekend

- By Paul Drury

SCOTLAND faces a September soaking after forecasters warned more than six inches of rain will hit parts of the country this weekend.

The Met Office says the heavens will open across much of the West of Scotland tomorrow evening and won’t let up until Monday morning.

Many places in the Highlands will see between 25 and 50mm (up to 2ins) of rainfall but higher spots can expect 120-160mm (6ins).

A yellow ‘be aware’ Met Office warning states that this could result in localised flooding while accompanying high winds could cause travel disruption.

Met Office chief meteorologist Steve Ramsdale said: ‘There’s a bit of a north-south split in the weather for the UK this weekend, with wet and windy weather across the north and largely fine, dry conditions in the south.

‘At the moment, our focus is on parts of western Scotland.

‘Although Saturday will start bright and breezy, heavy and persistent rain and strong winds will arrive later in the day and continue through Sunday before finally clearing on Monday.’

It will be a largely fine and dry weekend elsewhere, though, with long spells of autumn sunshine.
