I’VE had two strange coincidences in my life. Some years ago, my husband and I were staying in a hotel in the Black Forest miles from anywhere. A fellow traveller spoke to us and, as I hail from Llandudno Junction, I could detect his North Wales accent. I discovered the young man was from Conwy, two miles from my old home. Even stranger, he had been an apprentice to my father, who was a joiner. The second coincidence was when a neighbour in Liverpool told me she was going to stay with a friend who lived in Rugby. I told her that I had an auntie who lived in Kingsley Avenue in the town. ‘What number?’ asked my neighbour. She could hardly believe it when I replied: ‘125.’ Her friend lived next door at number 123 and had bought the bungalow from my auntie’s mother-in-law. I had often played in both gardens as a child.
