QPR strike is the cherry on top for Dykes
SCOTLAND’S new strike hero Lyndon Dykes admits he has hardly paused for breath in a madcap few weeks.
The 24-year-old scored on his league debut for Queens Park Rangers in Saturday’s 2-0 Championship win over visitors Nottingham Forest after winning and converting a second-half penalty.
It came just a week after he was rewarded with a first cap for Steve Clarke’s national team, against Israel, and then a first goal in his second appearance against Czech Republic last Monday.
Having scored twice in three games for Livingston in the Premiership in August before his £2million switch to QPR, he wasted no time opening his account for his new club.
Dykes (right) said: ‘I went away for the internationals with Scotland, but I’ve felt at home right away since I got back.
‘It’s been such a crazy couple of weeks. I haven’t really had a chance to sit down and think about some targets.
‘I’ve been pulled all over the joint — coming down from Scotland to QPR, trying to settle, then off for internationals, then back.
‘That’s kind of how I hoped my QPR debut would go — I don’t think it could have gone any better apart from maybe getting a hat-trick.
‘It was good to get a goal, along with three points for the boys.
‘I wanted to try and get to England to play, and never look back and think: “I wish I had gone there”. When QPR came, I was buzzing to try and get it done.
‘I hope things are falling into place with the choices I’m making. I had the choice between Australia and Scotland, but chose Scotland.
‘It felt right, I felt at home in the UK, and speaking to a lot of friends and ex-players helped with that decision. ‘I can play any role — on the right wing in Scotland and also in the hole, then as a No 9. ‘Since I’ve arrived all the boys have been great, along with the manager and the staff and I have really been enjoying it. ‘It’s a bit weird scoring goals with no fans (present) against Forest. It would have been nice to have them here, especially for my first one here.’ Dykes took on the responsibility after being fouled by Tobias Figeuiredo, calmly slamming home the penalty in the 54th minute — before Ilias Chair sealed victory for the hosts in stoppage time.
