I’M SO SORRY

Arfield admits he blew double chance to clinch win for Rangers

- JOHN GREECHAN

SCOTT ARFIELD offered up an apology after missing two glorious chances to secure the three points for Rangers yesterday

The midfielder insists he should have given Ofir Marciano no chance to make a blinding double save as Rangers dropped points at Easter Road. The Hibs goalkeeper pulled off two stunning stops from Arfield with just over 10 minutes of yesterday’s thrilling 2-2 draw remaining.

And Arfield, who had put the visitors 2-1 up as they battled back from a goal down, insisted: ‘I need to score, I need to score. I can’t get it out of my head.

‘I haven’t seen it back yet. At least the second one has to go in. The first one was a good save but I should have finished it. I think he just throws his body at the second one but it shouldn’t come to that. I have got to score it.

‘I don’t think they had a chance after that. On a personal note, it is good to get a goal and get on the scoresheet. But these are the chances that you need to

take — and we need to win these games. ‘I apologise and we move on as quickly as possible. It is a miss, without a doubt.’ Rangers stay top of the Premiership by a single point despite conceding their first two league goals since March. But Arfield said: ‘There is emphasis on this season internally and externally, there is no getting away from that. ‘The pressure is always the same. When you wear this badge, you overthink things at times. You need to take things in isolation. ‘They are chances you need to score regardless of what season you are in. You need to score and win the game.’ Asked if there was more pressure to stop Celtic winning a tenth consecutive title, he added: ‘There could be, there could be, for certain people. I think everyone is aware of the situation.’ Arfield also praised Alfredo Morelos (right) for his goal and performance, saying: ‘For me, he has always been focused. He’s a team-mate who wears his heart on his sleeve and you can see that, everybody can. ‘He’s so happy when he scores goals and that one will do him the world of good. ‘He has always been focused for us, whatever is said about him doesn’t affect him. I don’t think he can understand it! ‘But he’s a fantastic team-mate and a fantastic guy, and when he’s a No9 he has to score goals.’
