Robinson praises clinical finishing

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

STEPHEN ROBINSON praised Motherwell for rediscovering their cutting edge after burying Aberdeen at Pittodrie. After his team moved up to eighth in the league, he insisted three goals in the opening 22 minutes was the least they deserved for a scintillating start. ‘The difference between now and earlier in the season was we were clinical. We took our chances,’ said Robinson. ‘We had a couple of other opportunities as well and one disallowed goal against a very good Aberdeen team. ‘When we went two and three up, we were so disciplined defensively. We let them have the ball and we tried to hit on the counter, which has worked well for us recently.’ Robinson viewed yesterday’s win as a major boost ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Israel. ‘We’ve only lost once in five now and the confidence has been building,’ said the Fir Park manager, whose team defeated Coleraine in the previous round last week. ‘We will go quietly about our business and we will keep building momentum. We didn’t get back from Belfast until late last week and then the focus was on Aberdeen. But we watched them (Hapoel) briefly on the bus and they have good individuals.’ Israel is currently in lockdown due to Covid-19 but Robinson has no worries about the trip. He added: ‘You see how strict everything is here in Scotland and Israel is the same. We will have exemption and won’t go outside the hotel. It’s a great chance for the club (to progress). ‘We’re quite happy now to have four days’ rest. We have a small squad but the boys have earned the right to go there.’
