I was obsessed by boys says Lily, 31 (and no doubt it was mutual)

- By Emma Powell Showbusiness Correspondent

HAVING hit her 30s, Lily James looks back and reckons she’s spent too much time obsessing about boys.

If she meant to discourage the opposite sex with her latest photoshoot, it’s unlikely to have that effect.

The Mamma Mia star put on a sultry display as she modelled a series of outfits for Harper’s Bazaar, including a satin bralet, a plunging gown and a black trouser suit fashioned with a giant pink bow.

Despite the very adult feel to the images, Miss James, 31, insists she still feels like a child. She said: ‘Lots of girlfriends said to me, “Oh, you feel so much relief in your thirties, you know who you are.”

‘I thought I was there, but then realised I’m actually not. I think I’ll probably always be a “searching” person... I can’t picture getting to a point where I’ll feel like, “Oh, I’ve grown.” I still feel like a child.’

Miss James, who played Lady Rose in Downton Abbey, also wishes she had been kinder to herself when she was younger – and less preoccupied with boys. Asked what advice she’d give her younger self she said: ‘Don’t be obsessed by boys! Hang out with your girl mates. And don’t take everything so seriously.’ The star – who is currently dating Captain America’s Chris

Evans, 39 – spent lockdown at her home in London from which she shared pictures of her sunbathing and exercising.

She said the period reinforced her desire to challenge herself post-pandemic. ‘I just know that I want to try to stretch myself,’ she said. Her latest role is as the second

Mrs de Winter in an adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel Rebecca. She said she took the part because ‘I love that she sides with a murderer – I mean, that’s screwed up.’

The November issue of Harper’s Bazaar is on sale tomorrow.
