It’s a truce as Dons accept apology from Sky
ABERDEEN last night accepted an apology from Sky Sports after complaining about a ‘one-sided and humiliating’ promotional video screened ahead of Sunday’s thrilling 3-3 Premiership draw with Celtic. Ahead of the fixture in the Granite City, which the broadcaster billed as ‘a game which always delivers’, the controversial promo showed the Parkhead club notching 22 goals against the Dons while showing none scored by Aberdeen.
The video also featured Celtic boss Neil Lennon celebrating with the travelling fans at Pittodrie during a previous visit, while a tweet by Sky Sports referred to the club on social media as ‘Abderdeen’. Demanding an apology, fuming Dons chairman Dave Cormack had tweeted: ‘Really disappointed at Sky. To spend all week creating a one-sided promo that tries to humiliate any club goes against
Sky’s commitment to help promote and grow the SPFL. ‘Thanks for the motivation and for showing our 3 goals today! ‘BTW team name is spelt ABERDEEN! Apology on its way?’ Last night that apology arrived in a statement released by both Aberdeen and Sky Sports as the two parties put the issue to bed. The joint statement read: ‘Aberdeen FC chairman Dave Cormack and Sky Sports director of football Gary Hughes held an open, constructive, and positive Zoom conversation this evening about yesterday’s tweet and the concerns raised by Aberdeen. ‘While the tweet was part of a number of features within an hour-long build-up and not intended to be used in isolation, Sky unreservedly apologised for any offence the tweet caused to Aberdeen and their fans. The apology has been accepted by the club.’
