ALNWICK: NO BITTERNESS FOR BUDDIES

- By GEORGE GRANT

ST MIRREN keeper Jak Alnwick insists there are no hard feelings towards Motherwell despite the Steelmen reaping the benefits of the Paisley side’s Covid outbreak. Stephen Robinson’s men picked up six points after both Saints and Kilmarnock had to forfeit games against them as punishment for breaching protocols. Jim Goodwin’s Buddies — who have lodged an appeal with Hampden bosses — have the chance to claim three of those points back today in a potentially spicy affair at Fir Park. But Alnwick (right) insists the St Mirren players aren’t blaming the Lanarkshire side for what happened. ‘There’s no bitterness towards Motherwell,’ he said. ‘They’ve obviously prepared for a game that was then called off. ‘But I don’t think they will have been thinking they should have been given the points. ‘It’s down to the SPFL. It’s happened to Kilmarnock as well so Motherwell have picked up six points, which helps them. ‘We want to win the game of football as we would have done in any case. There’s no extra hatred.’ Saints are on an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions yet still find themselves bottom of the Premiership table after Hamilton also picked up a coronavirus walkover win from Saints. ‘It’s difficult to take but you’ve just got to use that as motivation,’ said former Rangers No 1 Alnwick. “We can’t feel sorry for ourselves and end up losing two, three, four games because we’ve been moping about. If you do that you will end up in trouble. ‘But we’ve had a good reaction and have picked up some good results recently in the league and Betfred Cup against Aberdeen, who are arguably the third-best team in the division.’
