HANK’S VERDICT: 5/10

LIKED? The pizza. REGRETS? None. SEE HER AGAIN? No, life is too short.

DATING PAST?

I WAS in along-distance relationship with a girl from Texas for most of my 30s, but it ended when she asked me to move to the U.s. — I wasn’t ready for that.

I use dating apps, but the number of times I’ve been left hanging is frustrating. I’m just less than 5 ft tall, and when women know you’re short it’s all over.

I live with someone whom I dated for a year in 2000 — it didn’t work out but we’re now good friends.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

A LITTLE. I thought Beverley sounded nice, so I was mostly looking forward to the date.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

BEVERLEY isn’t someone I’d normally go for. she’s quite skinny and I prefer curvy girls. and, while she looked pretty and was well dressed, she has too much of a hippy-dippy vibe; she is one of those clean-eaters who don’t drink alcohol. she ate a complicated-sounding, allergy-free, gluten-free pizza with a sparkling non-alcoholic drink, while I had a normal pizza and a beer.

EASY TO TALK TO?

AT TIMES the conversation felt forced. I asked her questions about her professional goals, but she didn’t ask me about my work. we chatted about the angels and what they meant to her, but I couldn’t fake any enthusiasm as it all sounded bonkers.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

YES. I replied to a message while we were on our date. Bev could hear the keyboard and pointedly asked me what I was doing. I had to confess all and it didn’t go down well.

DID SPARKS FLY?

NO, SHE even started laughing when I told her my height. she thought I was joking and apologised. I appreciated her honesty.

I know women find Games of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage sexy, and he’s only 4 ft 4 in, but in real life it isn’t quite like that.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET IN PERSON?

I ASKED Bev if she’d like to swap numbers and she said she wasn’t sure if we were supposed to. on reflection, it was for the best.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

BEVERLEY was clearly shocked by my height, but I don’t think I’m on her spiritual wavelength.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HER?

BEVERLEY is quite bland and I’m not sure she’d get on with my quirky social circle.
